It turns out I had downloaded a wrong installer. it was of 4.6 whereas I needed 4.6.2 which is available here. The question deserves deletion but i wont coz some one else might commit the same sin., if you did not see the 'valid' status when you run the 'aspnet_regiis.exe -lv' , another way is to check the registry to make sure it is installed and enabled. https://www.w-systems.com/www/wmobilehelp/howto_verify_aspnet_installed.htm. r
